Been working on my memoir for … a very long time. Start and start over. Was making good progress then paused for summer company and have been avoiding it ever since. Just before I saw this post I had decided that I had to write anything/something each day, and don’t put away my pad of paper until I have an idea for the next day. I don’t know if it will work tomorrow but it worked today. Thanks for the reminder that little bits add up.
Yes! It’s always encouraging to hear how others approach big tasks in micro sized bites. I need to know more of these stories, especially from mothers and dreamers and women I’ve pedestaled as successful.
Just what I needed to see today. BTW, it took me 4 years to write my dissertation while giving birth to and caring for two children with special needs. OTs are rock stars!
Trying to write the second book...14 chapters left. Trying for one per week because I want more time to edit and let them sit before first draft is due. But...I realize this might be crazy, especially when I'm traveling. So, instead, I'm just going to focus on writing for 2-hours per day, 5 days per week. See what I can do with that. I will reassess in a few weeks. Not exactly a small step, but it's holding the outcome a little more loosely! Love Martha Beck's work! Thanks for these reminders.
Yes yes yes. People around me have been saying this to me, but not in quite the same way. To think I could get rid of my bogeyman in 15 minutes a day is outstanding. I'm in.
This advice - to break down goals into tiny action steps then take them one by one - is proven by research to be the best way to start a new habit and/or break an old habit. It applies so well to writing! Thanks, Heather, for the reminder.
In August, I planned to write the final three chapters for my memoir by the end of the year. As of today, I've written one chapter. First tiny step: review August notes for the chapter on capitalism.
I’ve been avoiding my big scary monster for 6 months, even though finishing would be the happiest thing in the world. Thank you for this.
